Arturia has refreshed its beloved compact controller and sequencer with generative tools, deeper connectivity, and a redesigned interface that makes creative flow easier than ever.
Arturia has upgraded its popular KeyStep 37 with a host of meaningful improvements that go well beyond a cosmetic refresh.
The mk2 builds on the original’s foundations with five additional keys, two extra buttons, and four new encoders, bringing the total to a 37-note Slimkey keyboard with velocity and aftertouch. That expanded layout translates directly to more expressive playing and hands-on access to parameters that previously required deeper menu navigation. A new OLED screen and clickable encoder give you clearer visual feedback, and a strip of 39 LEDs above the keybed lights up to show notes played and sequence progress in real time.

The sequencer has had an upgrade, too. Pattern chaining lets you link sequences into full arrangements, while unquantized recording captures the natural feel of a live performance. New generative tools, Mutate and Spice, are arguably the headline additions: Mutate transforms your sequences or arps on the fly, from subtle shifts to dramatic variations, while Spice injects controlled randomness into rhythms via Shift + Mod Wheel. Neither feature requires stopping playback, so your creative momentum stays intact.
The arpeggiator has seen a serious upgrade – beyond classic up/down patterns, the Phrase Arpeggiator generates looping phrases based on the notes you’re holding, with selectable styles shown right on the key labels. Scale and Chord modes round things out nicely for both songwriters and more experimentally minded players.
When it comes to connectivity, the back panel includes CV Pitch, Gate, Mod 1, and a new Mod 2 output alongside MIDI In/Out, Sync I/O, a pedal input, and USB-C — making it equally at home driving a modular rack, a hardware synth, or a full DAW setup. A new power switch and Kensington lock slot also make an appearance, small touches that signal Arturia has been listening to its users.
With its extended playability, enhanced hands-on control, visual feedback, and deep connectivity, the KeyStep 37 mk2 makes an ideal companion for jamming, performing, and finding new ideas with any hybrid setup.
