Merging Technologies has announced Pyramix 16, the latest major upgrade to its professional DAW, introducing PanNoir stereo panning technology, a built-in Dolby Atmos renderer and expanded compatibility across three updated tiers.
Pyramix 16 is here, and Merging Technologies has packed it with PanNoir stereo panning, a built-in Dolby Atmos renderer and expanded compatibility across Elements, Pro and Premium tiers.
Developed in collaboration with recording engineer and producer Jean-Daniel Noir, the headline addition is PanNoir, a new panning technology built directly into the Pyramix mixer. Traditional DAWs rely solely on level differences when panning spot microphones, which can introduce phase issues and compromise stereo imaging. PanNoir addresses this by incorporating both level and time of arrival differences, reflecting how sound actually reaches a main stereo microphone pair and how human hearing processes it.

“PanNoir sounds remarkably natural. When I bring spot mics into the mix, I simply gain clarity while preserving the stereo image, tonal balance, and musicality of the main pair. If needed, I can push them much louder than without PanNoir. It offers an unmatched level of flexibility and intimacy with the music,” says Noir.
The new feature was put to the test: “In a recent opera production where we couldn’t place a main stereo pair above the conductor, PanNoir allowed me to rely solely on the spot mics, yet the mix still delivered a natural, coherent stereo image,” Noir adds.
Beyond PanNoir, Pyramix Premium now includes a built-in Dolby Atmos Renderer supporting speaker configurations up to 9.1.6 as well as binaural for headphones. Live Re-Renders and loudness measurement via the Pyramix Final Check meter are also included, significantly reducing setup complexity for immersive music production.
Parallels Desktop support is another practical addition, bringing Pyramix closer to a native macOS experience and allowing Mac users to run the DAW alongside their usual applications.
Pyramix 16 is available across three tiers – Elements, Pro and Premium – each targeting a different level of production need, from project studios and podcasters through to top-tier classical and immersive audio facilities.
Product Manager Maurice Engler says, “Thanks to invaluable feedback from our customers and the dedication of our team, we are proud to deliver a new version that we believe is focused on what our users specialise in: capturing great music and delivering it to a wide audience in the best possible way.”
