Courses to be made free include nursing, construction, hospitality, graphic arts, and dozens more with a further ten courses yet to be announced — bringing the total to more than 50.
“This is the biggest overhaul of TAFE, skills and training in Victoria’s history,” Minister for Training and Skills Gayle Tierney said. “It will make sure all Victorians can get the training they need for a good job, building our state.”

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said making TAFE courses free would ensure employment and stimulate the economy. “We need more young people with the right skills to keep our state moving,” said the Premier. “Because they’re all in our growing ‘priority’ industries, you can be pretty damn sure that if you graduate with one of these qualifications, you’ll have a job waiting for you at the end of it.”
