SLAM FOUNDERS WIN AWARD

Helen and Quincy are both musicians and together own and operate Bakehouse Studios in Melbourne, one of the cities leading rehearsal spaces now in it’s third decade of operation. In 2014 the couple started an art project that mixes contemporary music with visual art, jewellers, taxidermists, shoemakers, phorography and fashion. The walls are adorned with an ecclectic and unique mix of works that embody the creativity the space aims to envoke in its patrons.

In 2010, the couple formed SLAM (Save Live Australia’s Music) and rallied 20.000 people in support of maintaining Melbournes live music scene and cultural identity. They changed laws and put live music firmly on the political agenda. The pair still continue to volunteer thousands of hours to help shape Live Music policy nationwide and have been at the frontline of negotiations for the Victorian planning reforms in 2014.

Both Helen and Quincy are deserving winners of the prestigeous prize, and their contribution to Australian music won’t be forgotten for a long time.
