Harrison updates the 32Classic Channel Strip with native SSL control

Harrison 32Classic Channel Strip
Words by Mixdown

Version 2 adds native SSL 360° and UC1 integration, new compressor and sidechain tools and a dual-skin interface, and existing owners get it free.

Harrison Audio has updated its 32Classic Channel Strip to version 2, with the big change being native integration with SSL’s 360° software and the UC1 Plug-In Controller. The plug-in models the sound of Harrison’s 3232 and 32Classic consoles (the Nashville desks behind plenty of records since the mid-’70s) and V2 keeps that character while adding hands-on hardware control.

Highlights

  • Native SSL 360° and UC1 integration – appears in the 360° Plug-In Mixer automatically, no 360° Link plug-in required
  • Dedicated 360° skin with channel fader, pan, width, solo and cut controls
  • Legacy skin that keeps the original layout
  • Auto-Gain compression to hold output level steady
  • Compressor Mix control for parallel compression
  • Emphasis Listen mode to audition the compressor’s emphasis filter
  • External sidechain input for the gate, compressor or both
  • Quality-of-life additions: presets, A/B comparison, undo/redo, HQ mode, rescaleable interface and built-in help links
  • Backward compatible – V1 sessions open with settings and automation intact
  • Free upgrade for existing 32Classic Channel Strip owners

Once it’s in a DAW session, the plug-in shows up in the SSL 360° Plug-In Mixer on its own, with no 360° Link plug-in needed, so UC1 owners get console-style control from the surface. A dedicated 360° skin matches that layout and adds channel fader, pan, width, solo and cut controls. There’s also a Legacy skin that keeps the original layout for anyone who’d rather not change how they mix.

The compressor adds Auto-Gain, which holds the output level steady as you adjust the compression, plus a Compressor Mix control for easy parallel compression. An Emphasis Listen mode allows you to hear the compressor’s emphasis filter on its own. Dynamics now take an external sidechain as well, feeding the gate, the compressor or both from another source, with monitoring to track what’s driving what. Preset save and recall, A/B comparison, undo and redo, an HQ mode for final mixes, a rescaleable interface and built-in help links round out the update. V1 sessions open in V2 with settings and automation intact.

Existing 32Classic Channel Strip owners get V2 free. It’s out now, with separate offers for SSL hardware owners and Complete Access subscribers through the SSL store.
