From upcoming album Lost at Sea; Out Oct. 20th via Blue Élan Records, Cadillac Three’s Jaren Johnston-produced LP ties Chris Shiflett’s California rock and roll roots with his love for country music

“My favorite songs are the ones that you don’t have to labor over,” says Foo Fighter guitarist, podcast host, songwriter, and all-around rock-and-roll veteren Chris Shiflett.

“Sometimes you have those magic songwriting moments when your pen can barely keep up with the words and it all spills out really quickly. Somehow they always just sing and play better, looser, freer.”

Shiflett’s new track “Overboard,” an overdriven, mid-tempo strummer provides a taste of his upcoming album Lost at Sea—out October 20th via Blue Élan Records.

“It’s a middle-aged love song,” says Shiflett. Nodding to the final verse of “Overboard”—“No little voices down the hall / Distracting us at all, oh no”— he jokes, “All the parents out there will understand.”

On “Lost at Sea,” Chris Shiflett blends elements from his previous two albums, “West Coast Town” (2017), which paid homage to honky-tonk, and “Hard Lessons” (2019), known for its overdriven sonics. Shiflett primarily recorded this new album in Nashville, collaborating with producer Jaren Johnston, who is not only the frontman of the Cadillac Three but also a songwriter responsible for numerous Number 1 country hits. He enlisted the talents of accomplished guitarists like Charlie Worsham, Tom Bukovac, and Nathan Keeterle, who contributed impressive guitar work to the record. Shiflett also joined forces with several co-writers, including Kendell Marvel and Cody Jinks, to infuse “Lost at Sea” with compelling storytelling that matches the album’s powerful music.

Along with the soon-to-be-released album, Shiflett—together with Volume.com, Double Elvis, and Premier Guitar—recently launched a new vodcast focused specifically on guitar solos. On Shred With Shifty, Shiflett engages with the biggest names in the guitar world, delving into their most iconic solos and the art of playing guitar with exclusive video:
