Created in part as a tribute to the versatility of Joe Strummer’s playing, the model features a custom Road Worn finish, single-coil `60s pickups, and a vintage fingerboard and frets with a mid-‘60s “C” neck shape.

As the story goes, Strummer’s Tele was bought out of an act of goodwill. A friend from South Africa was looking to obtain British citizenship, so he agreed to a marriage at the price of £100.

It just so happened that a used Telecaster was available at a local shop for £120.

This guitar initially started out with a three-colour Sunburst finish, but as Strummer, Paul Simonon and Mick Jones came together to form The Clash, the aesthetics of the group changed, which brought an all-black paint job to the instrument, in addition to stencil work and several decals.

Furthermore, the newest collection on Fender Play “Artist Spotlight: Joe Strummer” features an exclusive look at the Clash frontman’s iconic Telecaster and classic hits like ‘Coma Girl’, ‘The Long Shadow’, ‘X-Ray Style’, ‘Love Kills’, ‘Get Down Moses’, and  ‘Johnny Appleseed’.

In the app, guitarists can watch Wayne Kramer of the MC5 play the original Strummer Tele and teach a basic rock guitar technique.
