The new full-range, flat-response cabinets are designed by amp experts to deliver traditional guitar amp feel in 50-watt and 100-watt configurations.

Blackstar has released the Artist FR Standard and Artist FR Special powered cabinets, purpose-built FRFR solutions designed to capture the feel and response of traditional guitar amps while handling the full-range output of modellers and floorboards. Both models arrive in Australia at the end of January.

FRFR cabinets can be a minefield. Many sound clinical or sterile, missing the physical connection you get from a traditional guitar amp. Blackstar’s approach leverages their amp design expertise to create powered cabinets that actually feel right under your fingers, whether you’re running an Axe-Fx, Kemper, Helix, or any other modelling system.

Artist FR Standard (50 watts)

The compact Artist FR Standard delivers 50 watts through a 1×12 configuration, making it ideal for home practice, studio work, and smaller gigs where you need professional sound without lugging serious weight. Built on Blackstar’s proven cabinet construction and power amp technology, it uses a custom-designed flat-response speaker that ensures clarity and accuracy across all your amp and effects models.

Artist FR Special (100 watts)

Stepping up to 100 watts, the Artist FR Special brings the same audio performance in a format suited to rehearsals and larger performances. Same speaker technology, same amp-like response, just more headroom when you need it.

Shared features

Both models feature flexible front panel controls that are actually intuitive: volume, 3-band active EQ, and a presence control to fine-tune your high end in an intuitive way. Each cabinet includes a built-in kickstand for tilt-back monitoring—handy whether you’re using it as a stage monitor or need to angle it up in a smaller space. The flat-response speaker design ensures what you’re hearing accurately represents what’s coming out of your modeller, making it easier to dial in tones that translate well to FOH or studio monitors.

If you’re sick of hauling heavy tube amps to rehearsals (who isn’t?) or you’ve fully committed to the modelling life, having a dedicated FRFR cabinet that actually responds like an amp makes a real difference. Both the Artist FR Standard and Artist FR Special aim to bridge that gap between the convenience of modellers and the physical feel of traditional amplification.

Both models are available to order now, arriving at the end of January.
