Orba 2 allows users to play any sound, wherever they like, with a redesigned sound engine being able to play sampled pianos, guitars, found sounds, and more.

“Orba 2’s unique sounds include electronic synths as well as more traditional and acoustic instruments,” Artiphon said.

“Imagine conducting a string orchestra in the park – no strings attached and no screens required. Simply by sliding a finger across the Orba 2’s responsive surface, you’ll blend these synths & samples to achieve an infinite combination of sounds.

“With unprecedented expressive potential, you’ll never play the same note twice.”

Furthermore with the propensity to sample, the Orba 2 app will allow you to record any sound from the real world and transform it into a playable musical instrument.

“Try capturing the sounds of the city on your walk to work: turn a jackhammer into a percussion instrument, replay the melody of a songbird, or sample a tone from the street busker so you can play it yourself,” Artiphon said.

Orba 2 has an integrated looper that allows you to record loops right on the device itself. Using Drum, Bass, Chord, and Lead modes, you’ll be able to combine these sounds to create songs that are uniquely yours.

Orba 2’s new quantise feature will keep everything in time, while it has far more memory than its predecessor, you’ll be able to make way longer songs – up to 128 bars.

You can use Orba 2 to control your MIDI-based software and hardware instruments (via USB-C or wirelessly via Bluetooth MIDI).

It works with GarageBand, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Cubase, FL Studio, and any standard MIDI and MPE-compatible mobile app or hardware.

“We want people to express themselves musically in their everyday lives,” explains Artiphon CEO Mike Butera.

“We’ve dreamed of allowing anyone to play any sound they can imagine, anywhere they go, without worrying about historical instrument skills or abstract music theory. Orba 2 finally makes that possible.”

Orba 2 is available now in Australia for $249.
