With an overwhelming number of applications from artists across Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, the team behind BIGSOUND faced the daunting task of narrowing down the selection to the most promising acts generating significant buzz in the music industry. Out of the record-breaking list of requests, they have carefully chosen 141 artists who are set to captivate audiences during the event.

Ruby-Jean McCabe, Bigsound Co-Programming Lead and Sunroom Co-Director, acknowledged the challenge they faced in curating the lineup.

“Once again this year we had the unenviable task of reading, listening to and enjoying several thousand BIGSOUND applications from all over the country and world. While this is definitely our favourite time of the year, because we get to listen to so much amazing music, it can be our least favourite as well. As bookers we have to make the hard decision of whittling down these acts which felt like an impossible task given the talent in front of us!
“We feel this year’s lineup is one of the strongest we’ve ever seen showcase at BIGSOUND, which makes the task harder than ever before. The future of music in Australia is continuing on its upward trajectory and with this lineup, it’s obvious it will continue to do so.”

Now in its 22nd year, BIGSOUND is committed to showcasing the best emerging talent from all corners of the country. This year’s lineup represents artists from every state and territory, including regional areas, remote communities, and international acts.

In 2023, BIGSOUND aims to shine an even brighter spotlight on Australia’s First Nations talent. A total of 27 exceptional Indigenous artists, such as Miss Kaninna, Loren Ryan, Dean Brady, The Merindas, J-MILLA, CLOE TERARE, Tjaka, Kobie Dee, and Southeast Desert Metal, will take the stage, demonstrating the rich diversity and creativity of First Nations musicians in the country.

BIGSOUND has a track record of propelling artists to success, with previous participants like Sycco, dameeeela, Tasman Keith, Budjerah, Baker Boy, Thelma Plum, Ziggy Ramo, King Stingray, JK-47, Electric Fields, Alice Skye, Jem Cassar Daley, Dallas Woods, and DOBBY achieving significant milestones in their careers. This event remains a crucial platform for launching the careers of First Nations talent in Australia, solidifying its importance in the music industry.
