BIGSOUND returns for 2022 and they want you to play

Words by Eli Duxson

BIGSOUND is back and there’s cause for celebration in more ways than one!

Returning for the first time since 2019 (what was that year even like?!), BIGSOUND turns 21 this September 6 – 9.

What you need to know:

  • BIGSOUND is back for the first time since 2019 hitting Brisbane September 6 – 9.
  • A 21st birthday celebration is finally in store for the southern hemisphere’s biggest celebration of new music.
  • BIGSOUND 2022 will host 150 artists across 21 venues, with over 300 performances across three nights.

Like many others, the 21st party had to be delayed, but its arrival just becomes all the more better, as QMusic CEO Kris Stewart said they’re “feeling from the industry far and wide that they’re itching to be back in rooms together”.

“This year sees the return of our first live conference and festival since 2019, we couldn’t be more excited to get artists back on stages and industry back in their live element,” he said.

The southern hemisphere’s biggest celebration of new music has unearthed some of the country’s biggest acts over the years from A.B Original to Tash Sultana, and applications are now open for bands to secure their spot on the lineup.

“BIGSOUND has always been a place of discovery for the music industry and music fans alike,” they said in a press release.

“This year will be no different, with the domestic and international industry there to discover and sign artists, form partnerships, catch up and celebrate the reopening and re-emergence of our music scene.”

BIGSOUND 2022 will host 150 artists across 21 venues, with over 300 performances across three nights.

Building on feedback from previous years, BIGSOUND 2022 will see the addition of BIGSOUND Country.

Developed in partnership with APRA AMCOS and the Country Music Association of Australia, and supported by the Brisbane Economic Development Agency, BIGSOUND Country will be threaded throughout this year’s event, and will include a party, showcases, dedicated panels and a special show featuring some of Australia’s finest country music artists.

BIGSOUND 2022 is looking for Australia and New Zealand’s finest country music artists, in particular those who may have felt in the past BIGSOUND wasn’t for them.

Kris Stewart said, “Our feedback in the past has been that a large proportion of country music artists and industry haven’t felt that BIGSOUND serviced them. We want to change that.

“We want artists from every spectrum of country music; pop, alt-country, bluegrass, First Nations country artists. Everybody!”
