Soyuz’s team, using an upgraded brass version of the microphone’s traditional body, oxidise the metal to form a protective coat of magnetite, with a passivation process to give the mic a unique hue and patination.

With its new appearance and body, an ode to the history of its hometown of Tula, the 023 Brass Black retains its same studio power, able to capture noise at any distance with a full-bodied sound.

Marc Kuzio, of Soyuz Microphones, highlights this retention: “Our customers love the current version of the microphone and those who are lucky enough to get their hands on the Brass Black version will feel the exact same way.”

The 023 Brass Black will be manufactured in an extremely limited-edition production run, with only 80 microphones to be made in total.

This design, which Soyuz “hold near and dear to [their] hearts”, is now available.

“Our customers love the current version of the microphone and those who are lucky enough to get their hands on the Brass Black version will feel the exact same way,” Kuzio said.
