Behringer has released the Flanger Pedal, an all-analog stompbox designed to channel the wildly versatile spirit of 1970s flange units.

Flanging itself dates back further than the pedal format, originating in the studio during the 1960s and ’70s, when engineers achieved the effect by running two tape machines in sync and manually slowing one down by pressing a hand against the reel’s flange — hence the name. It wasn’t until the mid-1970s that the effect made its way into a stompbox, with pioneers like the Electro-Harmonix Electric Mistress and the MXR Flanger putting the swirling, jet-engine sound directly under a guitarist’s foot for the first time. Those original units became inseparable from the tone of the era, most famously defining David Gilmour’s guitar sound throughout Pink Floyd’s late-1970s peak.
Built around a single circuit, Behringer’s new pedal can swing from gentle chorusing to swirling leslie-style movement, through to a deep, throbbing vibe effect, all while retaining an unmistakably vintage tone.
Players can switch between an automatic mode for hands-free LFO sweeping, or a manual mode that lets them ride the integrated foot pedal directly across the filter for real-time control. Dedicated controls for sweep spread and feedback intensity allow everything from subtle stereo widening to more chaotic, space-rock textures to be dialled in.
The Flanger Pedal features true bypass to preserve clean tone when the effect is switched off, alongside authentic vintage styling and a road-rugged housing built to survive regular gigging. It runs on either a 9V battery or Behringer’s optional PSU-SB DC power supply, sold separately.
The Behringer Flanger Pedal is set to be available in early January 2027.
