Vale James Young
The pro audio industry has lost one of its great characters with the passing of Aston Microphones founder James Young from a heart attack.
Young has been residing with his family in Malta for the last 12 months to take a break after selling Aston to Behringer just months prior.
Link Audio held distribution rights for Aston before the sale and Managing Director Michael Jago enjoyed a strong working relationship with Young. He paid tribute to James over Facebook.
“It’s a sad day for us at Link Audio Australia, as we learned of the passing of James Young. James helped us get started in 2015 with his new UK microphone brand Aston Microphones.
“He was a force of nature with a huge zest for life, unwavering drive, and a talented muso to boot.
“Our thoughts go out to his family at this time. We have great memories of his numerous trips to Australia and he will be sadly missed.”
The UK-based audio technology company has been at the forefront of microphone design since releasing the Origin back in 2016, and have gone on to garner industry acclaim for their growing range of innovative microphones – all of which are designed and constructed in the UK.
Aston are also known for employing the services of a select group of musicians, producers, and engineers called the Aston 33 to help provide input and feedback in the sound design stage, which has since grown into a panel of 600 industry professionals.
Despite taking a break, those close to him knew that he’d constantly be thinking about new projects, as Young oozed passion and excitement.
