Coinciding with Melbourne International Games Week, High Score: Composition and Sound Art for Gaming will go down on Saturday October 3, with sound producers and games developers from all around the world being invited to join the single day virtual conference.

High Score will allow developers and producers to hear from some of the biggest and best names in the business, including a keynote address from Melbourne’s own Dan Golding, who composed the soundtrack for the surprise hit Untitled Goose Game.

Elsewhere, Seattle-based Minecraft Nether composer and producer Lena Raine will also deliver a keynote address, with other noted presentations including Wilbert Roget II discussing the making of Mortal Kombat 11, an insight into the New Zealand-made Best Friends Forever with Josie Brechner and a presentation from Dave Tucker and Claire Morwood diving into the music of their game Before I Forget.

High Score will also feature a range of virtual panels discussing music-led games, problem solving in a technical environment and the relationship between indie games and music, and is set to be hosted by Angharad ‘Rad’ Yeo of ABC’s Spawn Point.

In a statement discussing High Score, APRA AMCOS manager of screen Greg Morrow celebrated the event, saying that “High Score has become a really unique and sought-after event where the gaming and composing sectors converge to exchange ideas, share expertise and to build networks.

“We never questioned if High Score would take a year off, as gaming presents a really vital opportunity for music creators at a time when so much is in flux.”
