AEA Ribbon Mics has announced the NUVO Flight, a bundled kit bringing together the N22, N13 and N8 active ribbon microphones to cover near-field, mid-field and far-field recording in a single package.
NUVO Flight is AEA’s latest release, a bundled active ribbon kit, puts the N22, N13 and N8 into a single flight case ready for studio or stage.
The NUVO Flight bundles three active ribbon mics from AEA’s modern NUVO series into a rugged flight case with custom-moulded foam. It’s a kit designed to move between studio sessions, live environments and wherever else the work takes you.

Each microphone covers a distinct working distance. The N22 handles close miking from one to 18 inches, with reduced proximity effect and extended top-end clarity – a strong option for vocals, guitar amps and percussion where you need detail without the buildup. The N13 is a newer addition to the NUVO line, featuring a 1.2-micron ribbon for improved transient response, and sits well at mid-field distances for drum overheads, acoustic instruments and strings. The N8 rounds things out at the far end, built to capture the natural sound of a space from 12 inches to over 20 feet — room miking, ensembles and orchestral applications are where it earns its keep.
All three share AEA’s active ribbon design, which means phantom-powered electronics, high SPL handling and consistent output across a wide range of preamps. That last point matters more than it might seem – one of the traditional headaches with ribbon mics is finding a preamp with enough gain to drive them properly. The active design sidesteps that entirely.
AEA has been building microphones in Pasadena, California since the late 1990s, when they introduced the R44C as an evolution of the iconic RCA 44BX. Everything is still handcrafted there, and the NUVO series carries that same attention forward in a more contemporary, road-ready format.
The NUVO Flight is available now through authorised AEA dealers. More information at aearibbonmics.com.
