ADDAC System’s Clock Bender wants to break your four-to-the-floor habit

The Lisbon-based Eurorack maker has released the ADDAC406 Clock Bender, a compact 10HP module that introduces rhythmic complexity by superimposing odd time divisions over any incoming clock signal.

Steady, predictable rhythms have their place, but they’re not exactly the stuff of memorable modular patches. ADDAC System’s new ADDAC406 Clock Bender is built for musicians who want to push past the four-on-the-floor and into something different.

The module takes an incoming clock signal and generates two independent outputs, each of which dynamically accelerates or decelerates toward its own user-defined destination BPM over a set number of beats. Because each interval between pulses is always slightly shorter or longer than the last, neither output ever locks into a fixed, repeating pattern. Run those outputs alongside your main clock, and the interaction gets more interesting. The constant push and pull creates syncopation and rhythmic layering that ranges from subtle swing all the way out to free-jazz.

For modular users who already have a few probability or random gate modules in their rack, the Clock Bender isn’t doing any of this randomly. The output is mathematically derived, meaning the complexity is controlled and repeatable. You can dial in a result and expect it to hold, which makes it a distinct tool compared to something that’s just throwing dice with your gates.

Fitting all of this into 10HP is a practical win for anyone already dealing with low rack space, and the two independent outputs mean you can introduce different rhythmic tensions across multiple voices in a patch simultaneously.

ADDAC System has been building Eurorack modules out of Lisbon since 2009, with a focus on hybrid instruments that blend analogue and digital approaches. The Clock Bender fits into that ethos – precise digital maths generating something that sounds anything but calculated.
