Almost seven years after opening its doors to Melbourne’s live music scene, The Reverence has shared the sad news that the venue will close in early 2019.
The beloved Footscray institution announced the news via Facebook this morning, expressing gratitude to their ongoing supporters. The unfortunate closure of the venue arrives after news the team has been operating on a month-by-month basis in an effort to secure a lease.
“Without a lease or any certainty for a home, we are unable to plan long term and have had to stop investing back into the venue,” the Rev team said in their Facebook statement. “Looking back we are really proud of our achievements, the community that has congregated, and the memories that have been made are immense. What we’ve created here has far surpassed our expectations.”
The silver lining to the sad news is the assurance that the Rev will be going out with a bang, with promises to have “the wildest last few months” and to “stay tuned for a heap of show announcements.”
Last drinks have been called too soon. Be sure to raise a glass to the Rev throughout their last few months before closing shop on Saturday March 2.
