The Grand Magoozi Drop Mini Tour Dates

The Grand Magoozi.png

The Grand Magoozi’s self-titled album was recorded over three days in a living room that belongs to recording luminary, Nick Huggins. Using old style recording techniques and equipment, the release captures the warm timbre found in the 1950-60’s recordings. Written by front woman Susie Scurry, the eight original compositions surround the folk, blues and country genre.

Meeting the trio by chance, Darren Hanlon speaks of his time with them during the writing and recording stages.

“If I happen to be home I sit on my bed with all my belongings piled up in boxes towering around me and listen in,” he says. “So it was when the Grand Magoozi came to practice for a show they had coming up. When I say Magoozi, I mostly just mean Susie Scurry. She writes all the songs. She shows up at our place with her nylon string guitar dressed like Katherine Hepburn, stylish pleated slacks and her hair teased up in a wispy bouffant. Glen sets up his double bass, there’s a guy called Lochie playing drums, sometimes a fiddler called Johnny, the guitarist Tobias with his reverb twang, and I can hear her from my room giving the boys instructions like: “Sing this bit,” and “Everyone drop out here.”

In celebration of the upcoming dates, The Grand Magoozi have shared a brand new clip for their single ‘Come On’.
