Owen is the pseudonym under which multi-instrumentalist Mike Kinsella produces his solo material. Kinsella has spent the entirety of his adult life performing in some of Illinois’ most influential emo and indie bands of the 90s and 2000s including Cap’n Jazz, Owls, Joan of Arc, The One Up Downstairs and American Football.
Since Owen’s self titled release in 2001, he has consistently released records and has become a mainstay in the Illinois indie music scene, known for his intricate guitar parts and soft melodies.
Owen’s latest release, 2014’s Other People’s Songs is a cover album featuring reinterpretations of classic songs from Against Me!, Lungfish, Smoking Popes, Depeche Mode and The Promise Ring. He’ll be performing tracks from this haunting covers record as well as his extensive back catalogue while he’s here in Australia.
