Metallica have cancelled their Australian tour

The legendary US metal band announced the news in a statement published today, saying that “As most of you probably know, our brother James has been struggling with addiction on and off for many years. He has now, unfortunately, had to re-enter a treatment program to work on his recovery again. We fully intend to make our way to your part of the world as soon as health and schedule permit. We’ll let you know as soon as we can.”

In response, promoters Live Nation have announced that all tickets will be refunded in full, and are aiming to organise a tour with the band again soon – “We are working with Metallica to secure a new tour period and will make a further announcement as soon as possible.” Head here for refund details.

The band were set to kick off their WorldWired… Australian tour with Slipknot next month. There’s no word on whether we can expect rescheduled Slipknot dates, so stay tuned for more news when it arrives.
