Over the span of three weeks, Dark Mofo 2019 promises to build on last year’s mindbending program, offering major new music and arts precincts across Hobart and beyond. Whether you’re interested in the immersive visual displays, the clashing sonic textures, the thoughtful debate or even if you’re just a sucker for goth-tinged artistic endeavours (guilty), you’re in for a treat with this year’s program.
Featuring the likes of sonic oddball and dance extraordinaire FKA Twigs, Chilean electro guru Nicolás Jaar (who will debut the brilliant avant-house textures of last year’s Against All Logic at the festival in addition to a set under his own name), beloved Australian instrumental trio The Dirty Three, Sharron Van Etten and ambient don Roger Eno (yes, he’s Brian’s brother), there’s certainly a lot to wrap your teeth around here.
Dark Mofo will also feature performances from Serpentwithfeet, Junglepussy, Mallrat, Empress Of, John Grant, Sampa The Great, Augie March, Indonesian gabber fiends Gabber Modus Operandi and Russian witch-house group IC3PEAK. There’s also a premium showcase of brutal black, death and extreme metal courtesy of Brazillian legends Mystifier, Dragged Into Sunlight, Funebrarum and Zhrine – because you can’t have a goth fest without some beautiful, glorious metal.
There’s also a whole heap more music acts on the program, as well as a bunch of incredible art and visual displays, installations, talks and more – we’ve barely scratched the surface here. Want to find out more? Best bet is head over to the Dark Mofo website, where you can also book tickets and read more about the incredible festival. We cannot wait.
