The band will be taking Sydney’s much loved duo Polish Club, riot grrrl inspired quartet VOIID and rockers Buoys along for the ride, as they trip through Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth and Brisbane later this year. Every single leg of the tour will offer an all ages or Under 18s option, something the band should be commended for.
The shows also marks one of the first Australian appearances of the band as a trio, as live guitarist Lachlan Ewbank has now officially joined the band. Ewbank is now present in all of the band’s press shots. Don’t think that this means for a minute that the thrash-kings have mellowed out; ‘Year Of The Dog’ (featuring Matt Caughthran of The Bronx) released last Thursday is the latest single from their upcoming record Positive Rising: Part 1, and it positively thumps. A lyric video features heads of the band members and Caughthran in abstracted 3-D red and blue.
The band wrote in a press release they had wanted to collaborate with Caughthran, an old friend who they had shared stages with before, for a long time. They got their chance during the recording of Positive Rising: Part 1 in L.A. DZ Deathrays guitarist Shane Parsons says Caughthran “drove an hour from his house, came into the vocal booth and nailed his part on, like, the first go”.
The band’s latest record comes quick off the heels of last year’s Bloody Lovely. 2018 also saw the band celebrate their tenth anniversary, touring nationally with guests PUP, The Love Junkies, Ali Barter, Press Club, Gooch Palms and Polish Club DJs.
