The Fairchild 670 is back in production

2023 sees Toni Fishman of Telefunken Elektroakustik officially relaunching the Fairchild Recording Equipment LLC brand to begin reproducing the Fairchild 670.

The Fairchild 670 is possibly the most highly-coveted piece of audio gear in history. While other vintage gear has been used consistently since its inception, the Fairchild famously fell out of vogue in a huge way. Literally binned and decommissioned because of the clunky and sizable nature of the stereo units, using 20 tubes to process signal, all of which needed to be operating in tandem, replaced and serviced from time to time. The arrival of digital recording saw engineers and studios getting rid of them, making them rarer than ever, before they came back into studios because of their ability to add weight, width and presence to a mix, process audio in mid-side, as well as stereo.

2023 sees Toni Fishman of Telefunken Elektroakustik officially relaunching the Fairchild Recording Equipment LLC brand to begin reproducing the Fairchild 670. Five years of R&D sees the new Fairchild 670 Tube Compressor operate just like the original, with dual mono operation, VU meters, all hand-wired with point-to-point construction. Distributors have been named internationally, with Blackbird Studios Nashville already purchasing one of the first units.

Armed with its design, replica of the original circuit, complete with hand-wound transformers and the same tubes as the originals, the new Fairchild 670 Tube Compressor is sure to make waves.
