The 2024 Music Victoria Award Nominees announced!

This year's record-breaking number of entrants highlights the industry's dedication to recognising the musicians, venues, festivals, and professionals who have played a vital role in shaping the state's vibrant music scene.

Music Victoria is thrilled to reveal the nominees for the 2024 Music Victoria Awards. Having won Best Victorian Breakthrough Act in 2019, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer G Flip has amassed three nominations in 2024; up for Best Album, Best Solo Artist and Best Pop Work. Similarly, Hiatus Kaiyote are nominated for Best Group this year, having first won Best Emerging Artist over a decade ago in 2013.

Melbourne-based electronic DJ and producer Ninajirachi will conclude a stellar year with nominations for Best DJ, Best Producer and Best Electronic Work, while international pop sensation Tones and I is nominated for Best Pop Work, having first collected an Outstanding Achievement Award in 2019.

Celebrated Victorian artists Simona Castricum, Mindy Meng Wag and Sui Zhen, Baraka The Kid, The Belair Lip Bombs, The Vovos, Lucy Wise and Hand To Earth all receive two nominations each in 2024.

Good Morning, Kaiit, Miss Kaninna, DRMNGNOW and Jess Ribero line up for Best Song (presented by PBS), while Maple Glider, Audrey Powne, Lucy Wise, G Flip and Simona Castricum have been nominated for Best Solo Artist (presented by Triple R).

This year’s nominees for Best Metro Festival highlight some incredible grassroots collectives creating powerful musical communities through ingenuity and hard work. Flippin’ the Bird (Frankston), Luliepalooza (Abbotsford), Melbourne International Jazz Festival, St Kilda Festival, Yo CiTY CONNECT: AFRO-FUTURE (Abbotsford).

Best Regional Venue/Presenter nominees are recognised for their innovative ways of creating live music opportunities for locals and travellers alike. The Blues Train (Bellarine), Meeniyan Town Hall (Gippsland), The Sound Doctor (Anglesea), The Gallery of Good (Trafalgar) and OK Motels (Charlton) work tirelessly to provide foundational opportunities for live music communities.

Simone Schinkel, Music Victoria’s CEO said of this year’s nominees:
