The HD 480 PRO addresses the two most common gripes with closed-back headphones – inaccurate low-end and long-session discomfort – in one purpose-built design.
Closed-back headphones have always come with a trade-off: isolation at the cost of accurate bass reproduction, and often comfort too. Sennheiser’s new HD 480 PRO is built to put those complaints to rest.

Sitting at the top of the company’s 400 series alongside the open-back HD 490 PRO, the HD 480 PRO is aimed at professionals who need isolation for tracking vocals, monitoring live sound or working in a shared space. “Compared to other closed-back headphones, they are a lot tighter on the bass, their low-end is super-accurate and realistic,” says Jimmy R. Landry, Category Market Manager, Music Industry at Sennheiser.
A 38 mm dynamic transducer with ultralight voice coils spans a frequency range of 3 to 28,700 Hz. The company’s “Vibration Attenuation System” – a collection of design measures targeting unwanted vibration, reflections and distortion – works alongside multiple stages of passive sound shielding to keep the signal clean and detailed.
The HD 480 Pro’s ergonomics get the same level of care. At 272 g without cable, the headphones sit lightly on the head, and the patented Special Axes Geometry ensures consistent contact pressure regardless of head shape. Soft zones in the ear pads accommodate glasses temples without breaking the seal. A patented coiled section near the earcup connector prevents cable-borne noise from reaching the drivers, and the detachable cable can be routed from either side to suit different set-ups.
“Knowing that you can rely on what you’re hearing is everything, that’s what you get with the HD 480 PRO,” says producer Jim Kaufman. Singer-songwriter Nao Yoshioka’s first impressions weren’t just about the sound. “The ear cushions. Incredibly soft, right away. And then the dimensionality of the sound. It felt like the music had depth and space around it.”
The HD 480 PRO ships with recording earpads and a 3 m coiled cable, available with either a carrying bag or a travel case.
