The wideband wireless ecosystem expands with long-awaited handheld variants and programmable Command adapter, both launching September 2026.
Spectera users have been asking for it since day one, and Sennheiser has delivered.
At ISE 2026 in Barcelona, the audio giant opened preorders for the Spectera SKM handheld transmitter, available in both UHF and 1.4 GHz variants. Alongside it comes the Command adapter, which adds programmable communication functions to the handheld. Both products are scheduled to launch in September, marking a significant expansion of Sennheiser’s bidirectional wideband wireless ecosystem.

The handheld features Sennheiser’s standard capsule interface, accommodating both Sennheiser and Neumann microphone heads. Its sleek aluminium-anodised body houses an OLED display, while the bidirectional data stream, enabled by Sennheiser’s WMAS implementation, gives operators full remote control over mic parameters like low-cut filtering and gain adjustment.
The Command adapter’s flexibility is a standout. Users can program the button to change audio routing on the fly, making communication between talent and crew considerably smoother. Whether configured for toggling, muting, or push-to-talk operation, the Command functionality puts control exactly where performers need it—in their hands, not buried in a menu.
Beyond the handheld announcement, Sennheiser’s Spectera Lab at ISE showcased several developments coming to the ecosystem. The Spectera API, arriving in Q2, will enable advanced customisation and control across multi-vendor setups. Building on Sennheiser’s tradition of open protocols, the bidirectional API supports integration with industry partners, including Bitfocus Companion, SoundBase, and Sonoros, plus DIY solutions for productions with specific requirements.
Future additions on display included Engineer Mode (cue mode) for live sound applications, scheduled for December 2026, and a Command adapter for the SEK bodypack, arriving in May 2026. For broadcast applications, the Base Station ZMAN with ST 2110-30 standard integration is set for August 2026, utilising a Merging ZMAN module to slot Spectera into broadcast production chains.
Sennheiser’s approach to developing Spectera leans heavily on user input. The Spectera Lab functions as both a showcase and a collaborative space, with an Idea Space platform and Discord channel where users can suggest features. At ISE, visitors could even leave their feature requests directly on a large touchscreen.

Regular hardware, software, and functionality updates continue to expand what Spectera can do, with the Lab serving as the go-to resource for what’s coming next.
Preorders for the Spectera SKM handheld transmitter and Command adapter are open now, with both products shipping in September 2026.
