PRS has unveiled two new models overnight, adding to an already stellar lineup of Core Electrics
The NF53 is a single-cutaway electric, inspired by “one of Paul Reed Smith’s vintage guitars from 1953”, it brings all that’s good about vintage guitars and PRS’s cutting edge technology and melds it into one. Accompanying the NF 53 is the PRS Myles Kennedy, Kennedy’s own take on the NF 53. Both guitars are a new body shape for PRS, as well as featuring vintage specs like brass, split saddles and a tried and true 25.5” scale length, the NF 53 and Myles Kennedy also have plenty of tonal switching options for a multitude of sounds; a staple of PRS’s entire product range.

The NF 53 is a swamp ash bodied electric, available in Black Doghair, White Doghair, Blue Matteo and McCarty Sunburst. Dual Narrowfield DD pickups bridge the gap between the single coils of the 50s, while harnessing humbucking tech and switching options of the modern day. The NF 53 is distinctly PRS with classic PRS birds adorning the fretboard and fret markers, with three-a-side tuners, while the neck itself is a new exploration into a ‘Pattern 53’ style.
The Myles Kennedy is a variation of the NF 53, featuring a similarly new, single-cut body shape and solid, swamp ash body. Myles’ PRS deviates slightly with his own neck shape, and features Narrowfield MK pickups, the bridge being slightly angled for a classic sound. Available in opaque finishes Hunters Green and Vintage White and classic transparent finishes Tri-Colour Sunburst and Vintage Natural. The Myles Kennedy features coil splits, push-pull pots and a five-way blade switch.
The announcement follows a handful of high quality pedals, a growing list of artists endorsements and an expanding selection of amplifiers and speaker cabinets. PRS are a company with their nose to the grindstone, forging their own path amongst an industry full of imitations, clones and re-issues.
