WATCH: Gary Clark Jr. plays his new signature Cry Baby Wah

Now, Dunlop have shared a video with Clark Jr. as he dives into his own personal history with the Cry Baby, discussing his love for Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and other artists as he shreds away on his own signature pedal.

Clark’s signature variation on the classic effect adds a much lower frequency range and a tighter sweep, which the guitarist states to be perfect for “percussive situations.” He also discusses the way in which the pedal allows him to phrase solos much more melodically, saying that “To me it’s a lot more vocal than just the electric guitar, straight up. For example, when I play it on my song ‘When My Train Pulls In’, there’s a sense of confusion, angst, sorrow, determination and hope and I think using the wah in certain ways helps to express that sentiment along with the note.”
