The end product is a Masterbuilt Katana – the 8-string bass from Warwick’s Custom Shop. Designed in partnership with the former Kyuss and The Obsessed bassist, Katana has four normal strings accompanied with four octave strings. Finished off in stunning Chrometone Silver, the instrument also features a unqiue orientation; Reeder is left-handed, but he plays right-handed instruments upside down.
Along with that, the instrument also includes a number of personal touches that are unique to Reeder’s distinct low-end style. There’s a metal plate at the end of the fingerboard that protects the wood and bull skull inlays that pay homage to his desert farm that he loves so dearly. Other than that, you’ll find a flamed maple top with swamp ash back, flamed maple neck with a 24-fret tigerstripe ebony fingerboard and active MECJ/J chrome pickups with rechargeable lithium-ion battery-equipped Warwick electronics.
