Maton release the pristine Vera May Special acoustic

As the wife of Maton founder Bill May and long considered as the matriarch of the Maton name, Vera May toiled alongside Bill as he took Maton from a shed-born passion project to Australia’s finest instrument manufacturers, handling all administrative and financial aspects of the brand up until her retirement in 1987. The Vera May Special acts as a tribute to the undeniable influence Vera has had upon the brand, and enshrines her as one of the most respected figures in Australia’s musical instrument sector today.

The Vera May Special features an 808-sized body with a Lutz Spruce top and a blackwood neck, back and sides, with an ebony and inner pinstripe binding giving the guitar a pristine touch of elegance. The headstock features a design inspired by the original W.A. headstock that appeared on the first-ever Maton, with an elegant gloss finished ebony veneer and Mohter of Pearl logo being placed atop a figured blackwood veneer for a distinctive aesthetic. The guitar produces a fantastic tone abundant in midrange harmonics and balanced overtones, making it perfect for fingerpickers.

There’s also a Maton AP5 Pro pickup for when you need to plug things in, while the ebony fingerboard and bridge is adorned with snowflake inlays and a Vera May insignia at the 12th fret. The first 100 guitars will also include May’s own signature on the inside label, as well as an ultra-tough Ivory Hiscox flight case.
