Mac DeMarco demos the EarthQuaker Devices Pyramids stereo flanger

DeMarco demos the pedal and admits that he might not have tried it out if he’d seen it in a store, but added, “Here I am, I’ve got the time, and I sat down – and it felt good.” He plays some riffs and note that “it sounds like there’s a beautiful little choir of baby chicks singing along with me.”

It’s an honest reflection on the Pyramids and the perfect example of why this new pedal from EQD is definitely worth a try. DeMarco also offers some information on his production techniques, explaining how he used to create synthesiser sounds before he had access to an abundance of gear.

“I used to do a trick back in the day – I haven’t done it for a long time – before I had a bunch of keyboards to make synth sounds on. I would sample a weird tone coming out of my amp on, like, a crappy Casio sampler or something, and that would be my synth sounds.”

We reviewed the EarthQuaker Devices Pyramids and wagered you could spend an entire year discovering new tricks with it. For more on Mac DeMarco, check out our Gear Rundown dedicated to the equipment behind his signature sound.
