Working in a similar fashion to an E Bow, in that it uses a magnetic field to create vibrations amongst the strings resulting in prolonged sustain, the Sustainiac can also be disengaged to funciton as a regular pickup as well. The system has a three way selector; normal, which sustains the fundmantal note; mix, which sustains both the fundamental and overtone; and harmonic, which sustains just the overtone.
Elsewhere the JS2480 feaures a Satchur8 humbucker in the bridge, which when used in combination with the neck pickup is designed to emulate Satriani’s classic tone. The guitar also has a high pass filter built into its volume pots in order to maintain the high frequencies when played at low levels.
The neck is a three-piece maple/bubinga construction, while the body is basswood with a rosewood 24-fret neck. It has an Ibanez Edge tremolo system with an Ultralite trem arm as well as a snazzy Muscle Car Red finish.
