Another long-lost Prince guitar is headed to auction

The instrument, which Prince dubbed his ‘Blue Angel’, is a prime example of the workmanship that went into his iconic Cloud guitars of the ’80s. Crafted in 1984, the Blue Angel was used for seminal television appearances on Saturday Night Live and The Arsenio Hall Show, as well as the tours for Purple Rain and Sign o’ The Times. Prince also held the guitar for a Spin Magazine cover in 1991, where it was painted in a radiant Yellow finish.

It’s worth noting that ‘Blue Angel’ also underwent its fair share of paint jobs – in fact, that might be why it’s not as immediately recognisable as his other models. The guitar was resprayed in Yellow, White, Peach and Light Blue finishes throughout the ’80s before it was donned with its Electric Blue finish. The guitar also has a neck crack between the sixth and seventh frets, although we’re absolutely certain that whoever buys this won’t be looking to gig with it any time soon.

Like just about every famous guitar to hit auction, this one is being handled by Julien’s Auctions in LA, who have estimated that the Blue Angel will fetch around US $500,000 when it goes to auction next month. You can tune in for the live auction here.
