Tool are aiming to write a new EP while in isolation

The band’s virtuosic drummer Danny Carey expressed his desire to work on new material in Berklee’s drum and bass webinar last week, which guitarist Adam Jones and bassist Justin Chancellor also took part in (as well as Billy Sheehan and members of Korn and Megadeth – I wish my school was that cool).

In the Q&A segment of the Berklee live-streamed rhythm workshop, Carey put the idea on the table, saying that “I’m hoping, during this downtime, as soon as we’re able, maybe we’ll get together – Justin and I, and Adam. Maybe start hashing out some new Tool stuff in the meantime, maybe write another EP since we’re down and we can’t do anything else.” Watch a minute of the live-stream below.

While we should all know not to trust any Tool member with any kind of promise for new material, it’s certainly an exciting prospect to think about. At this rate, I doubt whether Maynard is involved or not will make much of a difference for the fans – an instrumental EP would actually be a pretty welcome addition to the band’s catalogue. Watch this space!
