The record is set to feature a whopping 17 tracks, with MXXWLL linking up with an array of local and international heavyweights to deliver vocals on the record such as Kaiit, Aloe Blacc, Guapdad 4000, SiR and JD Beck. The announcement is accompanied by the release of lead single ‘LIGHT TURN GREEN’ with John Givez, Rae Khalil and Carrtoons; watch the music video below. There’s some seriously nasty bass going on with this track – MXXWLL’s got such a nice ear for grooves in his work.
Now based full-time in LA, MXXWLL’s been a bit of a sensation for a few years now, amassing a pretty formidable online following through his presence across SoundCloud and YouTube. His penchant for swung beats and low basslines has made him a hit in beatmaking circles, with the Sydney-born artist even receiving the nod of approval from G-funk legend Snoop Dogg himself. MXXWLL was also listed as primary producer for Ty Dolla $ign and J Cole’s soulful 2019 Billboard chart hit ‘Purple Emoji’, which hit a cruisy 25 on the Hot 100 – not bad for someone who used to chop beats in a Sydney bedroom at all.
MXXWLL’s debut album Sheeesh comes out via AWAL on Friday May 22 – preorder it here.
