The Drop Bears bassist Johnny Healy passes away

Healy contributed to music in Melbourne as a member of bands such as The Pop Tarts, Kartoon, Felix, and The Breed. Most recently, he was a founding member and bass player for The Drop Bears, who shared the announcement of his passing on the band’s Facebook page.

The Drop Bears described Healy as “a true gentleman with a lightning wit and a massive heart and about whom nobody ever had a bad word to say.” The band itself was formed in Healy’s lounge room when its members were “going through some tough times” and all they wanted to do at the time was “hang out with each other, have a few drinks and laughs and play some music.”

Healy asked the band to arrange a music benefit night to help himself and his two sons, Hamish and Jude, and had intended to perform on the night. The Drop Bears hope to keep their promise and pay tribute to their friend in the near future.
