Sex Pistols to be subject of new music biopic

The film will apparently focus on band manager Malcolm McLaren and legendary fashion designer Vivienne Westwood, but will also feature the rise and fall of the notorious punk icons.

The announcement comes off the back of the on-screen success of Bohemian Rhapsody, which took out a massive box office haul as well as Best Actor win at the Oscars this year.

While Rocketman, the Elton John biopic is yet to be released, Motley Crue’s The Dirt shared some criticism with Bohemian Rhapsody for what was considered an inaccurate portrayal of events following the band’s decade long careers.

Hopefully such criticisms will not be transferable to the Sex Pistol’s film, with the band only existing for a period of three years.

The Sex Pistols burst into stardom from 1975 to 1978, igniting the punk rock scene as they went. Their bullish, violent style as well as their unapologetic working-class lyrics sparked a new wave of rock music that is still influencing artists today.

While the flick is still a bit far off in the distance, with Starlight Films beginning their casting process soon, there’s no doubt that the band’s gritty punk rock aesthetic seems ripe for a film to pluck from.
