The full list of nominations for the Cleveland ceremony includes John Prine, LL Cool J, MC5, Rage Against the Machine, Roxy Music, Stevie Nicks, Todd Rundgren, Rufus & Chaka Kahn, and The Zombies.
Nine of these acts have unsucessfully received a nod before, including Radiohead, while producer wunderkind Todd Rungren is among other first time nominees Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks (as a solo artist), Devo, Roxy Music and John Prine.
The ceremony is scheduled for March next year, although the full list of inductees will not be released until December. Judgement is passed by a mix of 1000 rock historians, journalists, and music industry professionals, but you can can slightly influence the process by voting on the Hall of Fame’s website.
Radiohead expressed apathy when nominated last year, although most news outlets regard them as one of the strongest chances.
“Maybe it’s a cultural thing that I really don’t understand. I mean, from the outside it looks like… it’s quite a self-regarding profession anyway. And anything that heightens that just makes me feel even more uncomfortable,” guitarist Johnny Greenwood told Rolling Stone in unpublished remarks last year.
Last year’s inductees included Bon Jovi, the Cars and Dire Straits.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will announce its official inductees for 2019 in December.
