The record’s announcement was supported with the release of a new single, the titular ‘Father Of All…’, which puts a lively twist on Green Day’s signature sound. Interestingly enough, the album artwork reveals that Father Of All… also contains a pretty foul word in its title (hence the …), and also visually references the band’s 2004 rock opera classic American Idiot.
In an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats Radio 1 overnight, Billie Joe Armstrong lamented on the context of the track, saying that “Rock and roll sometimes has become so tame because people are, a lot of rock acts are always trying to look for the feel-good song of the year or something, everything gets really watered down and wimpy, and I think rock music should make you feel bad.”
It’s not the only Green Day announcement to come out of today: the band have also teamed up with Weezer and Fall Out Boy to embark on the Hella Mega Tour, who’ve also released new tracks. Weezer have shared their latest single ‘The End Of The Game’ from their upcoming record Van Weezer, while Fall Out Boy have dropped ‘Dear Future Self (Hands Up)’, featuring none other than Wyclef Jean. They’ve also employed the genius of Ric Flair to help announce the tour in a bizarre video, which you can watch below.
Green Day’s new record Father Of All… arrives via Warner Music Australia on Friday February 7, 2020.
