Google have introduced a new Hum-to-Search feature

Thankfully, these frustrations could all be a thing of the past with the latest development from Google, who’ve gone and one-upped Shazam with their new Hum-to-Search feature.

The new feature, which is available as part of the Google application’s latest update for iOS and Android, now allows users to hum, whistle or sing into their microphone for 10-15 seconds while using the Google app to search for stray ear-worms.

Users can access the feature by tapping on the microphone in the Google app and clicking on the ‘search for song’ tool, while Google Assistant users can command the app using voice commands.

Upon navigating your song of choice, you can then explore all information paired with the song or associated artist, as well as view lyrics, music videos and even find alternate recordings.

Best of all, Google even claim that you don’t need to be a natural born singer to use this new feature, with the algorithm automatically processing your melodic data and presenting the options back to based on the most likely options.

See how it works in action below. I think we can all safely say that the world’s been waiting a long time for an app like this that actually works properly, and if Google continue to support this tool, there’s every chance it’s got itself a winning idea on its hands.
