Ed O’Brien announces debut solo album, teases new single ‘Brasil’

In a note posted to his Facebook, O’Brien revealed that the record would feature a number of high-profile guests, including Radiohead bassist Colin Greenwood, Portishead’s Adiran Utley, Glenn Kotche of Wilco, Laura Marling, Catherine Marks and famed producer Flood. O’Brien also detailed his extremely talented backing band, which consists of David Bowie drummer Omar Hakim and Dave Okumu and Nathan East of The Invisibles.

O’Brien also states that while the record was recorded between 2017-2019, the idea of a solo album came together after he and his family relocated to Brazil following Radiohead’s King of Limbs tour. He details the recording process extensively in the handwritten note – read a snippet below.

“It’s been an amazing journey, gathering all these great musicians, sound engineers and producers together. Not always easy and definitely not without its challenges… But that feels like the right and only place to be…”

O’Brien also stated that he plans to tour behind the record, which will also be released under the moniker EOB (no prizes for guessing what that stands for), and that a new single called ‘Brasil’ will drop this Friday. Is anybody else as hyped as I am for some ambient, polyrhythmic funk?
