Midnight Oil announced to headline WOMADelaide 2021 concert series

Words by Will Brewster

Other artists include Tash Sultana, Sampa The Great, Archie Roach and more.

A titanic presence on the national music festival circuit, WOMADelaide have announced an amazing line-up of all-Australian acts to perform at their reimagined 2021 event.

The 2021 concert series, set to go down as four sunset concerts in King Rodney Park from Friday March 5 to Monday March 8, will be headlined by none other than local icons Midnight Oil, who will be performing two separate shows across the festival.

Saturday’s slot will see Garrett and co. play a career spanning set of some of their greatest hits, while their closing set on Monday will revolve around the First Nations musicians who collaborated with the band on this year’s The Makaratta Project.

Concertgoers for both Saturday and Monday night’s shows are bound to be in a treat, with Vika & Linda booked to open for the Oils on Saturday and The Teskey Brothers slated to warm up the stage on Monday.

WOMADelaide will also see multi-instrumental dynamo Tash Sultana take to the stage on Sunday to showcase their first ever live set with a full band, putting their explosive solo looping set to bed for the time being in order to bring their upcoming LP Terra Firma to life.

Tash will be joined on the Sunday by Sampa The Great – undeniably the most exciting voice in Australian hip-hop today – marking one of her first live shows on Australian soil since the onset of the pandemic.

Elsewhere, songwriting icon Archie Roach is slated to appear at the Adelaide festival for a remarkable seventh time to perform songs from his reimagined version of 1990’s Charcoal Lane on the Friday night alongside Sarah Blasko and Lior, who will be performing with Nigel Westlake and the 54-piece Adelaide Symphony Orchestra.
