Head Gap Recording Studios brings together Frente, FERLA, Olympia and more for rebuild campaign.
A devastating fire has mobilised Melbourne’s music community to support beloved recording space Head Gap Studio.
After operating for more than 18 years as a cornerstone of Melbourne’s music scene, Head Gap Recording Studios was destroyed by fire in December 2024. In response to an overwhelming outpouring of community support, the studio has announced a series of fundraising events across Anzac weekend, with all proceeds directed toward establishing the studio’s future home.
The extensive lineup features performances from some of Australia’s most respected artists across multiple genres and venues, showcasing the deep connections the studio has cultivated throughout Melbourne’s music ecosystem.

The weekend begins on Anzac Day with Back to Basics at Ravens Yard & Warehouse in Thornbury, just across from Head Gap’s former location. The show will feature Skyscraper Stan, Alexander Gow, Riflebirds, The Delvenes, and Possum.
Saturday offers two distinct events: a jazz matinee at Cross Street Music Hall in Brunswick East from 2pm to 8pm with performers including Andrea Keller as part of Magnusson/Anning/Beck/Keller, Nat Bartsch, and James Sherlock Trio. That evening, DIY Shotkickers Saturday will showcase independent artists including Mark Sinton, Goodwin, and Moon Elevator.
Sunday programming begins with a Songwriters Matinee at Northcote Social Club from 1pm to 4pm, featuring acoustic performances from Frente, Olympia, FERLA, Magnets, and Brendan Welch. The fundraising efforts conclude with Sunday Sweat at Shotkickers, presenting a lineup of indie, punk and heavy bands including Gareth Skinner, Pretty Follies, Gun Laws, and Another Rotting Corpse.
The weekend of performances follows a community cricket match and BBQ scheduled for Saturday 22 March at Hayes Park in Thornbury from 12pm to 4pm, which will include a silent auction, kids’ cricket session, and magic show by Tricky Nick.
Home to producer/engineers Finn Keane and Rohan Sforcina since 2006, Head Gap has been recognised for its commitment to high-quality production, artist support, and community engagement. Although the physical building has been demolished, the studio team is focusing on reimagining and rebuilding for the future.
Local businesses supporting the events include 3 Ravens Brewery, Melbourne Backline Hire, Jamsheed Winery, and numerous others, highlighting the broader community investment in seeing the studio rise again.
Tickets are on sale now via www.headgap.com.au/events. For those unable to attend, donations to support Head Gap’s future home can still be made via GoFundMe.
