Latin Percussion has updated its iconic Cyclops convertible tambourine with a new silicone handle, improved jingle system and a versatile 'H' mount for seamless hand-to-stick transitions.

Few percussion accessories have the kind of staying power that Latin Percussion’s Cyclops tambourine has earned, and now the California-based brand has given it an update. Meet the Cyclops II Convertible Tambourine, a redesigned take on the classic eye-shaped frame that pairs the original’s compact form with useful engineering improvements.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

The frame is built from high-density, specially formulated plastic and loaded with a double row of 14 steel jingles. LP has used a patented pinning system to keep those jingles locked in place, delivering a bright, high-pitched and piercing sound without the rattle or drift you sometimes get on lesser tambourines.

Where the redesign really earns its “II” is in the handle. The new ergonomic silicone grip is ridged for stability and high-tack enough to stay put even mid-performance. Silicone also happens to be moisture-resistant, so it won’t absorb sweat or hold onto odours the way rubber or foam handles tend to – a small detail that’s pretty important after a long gig. The vibration-damping properties of the material also help reduce hand fatigue during extended playing sessions.

The other headline addition is the new ‘H’ mount with an integrated post, which lets players slide the tambourine on and off quickly for transitions between handheld and stick playing. LP has also built in an integrated Strike Zone to reduce stick noise and produce a warmer sound when the tambourine is mounted.

The Cyclops has always had a certain personality to it –  it’s compact, punchy and unmistakably LP. This updated version doesn’t stray from that identity so much as refine it, addressing the practical demands of modern players without losing what made the original worth carrying in the first place.
