Klang.io has launched Transcription Studio, an AI music transcription suite that can identify and transcribe multiple instruments simultaneously from any audio source into sheet music, tablature or MIDI.

Music transcription has always been one of those skills that separates formally trained musicians from everyone else. Klang.io is making the skill more accessible with Transcription Studio – billed as the world’s first AI tool suite capable of identifying and transcribing multiple instruments at the same time, and doing it quickly enough that it doesn’t interrupt your creative process.

The platform works as both an online tool and a DAW plugin. Upload an audio file, drop in a YouTube, Instagram or TikTok link, or play directly into a microphone, and Transcription Studio will detect individual instruments, analyse chords, melody and rhythm, and generate a transcription in under 30 seconds. Output options include sheet music to PDF and MusicXML, guitar tablature to GuitarPro and MIDI for use in whatever DAW you’re working in.

Catch up on all the latest news here.

Three modes cover different use cases:

  • Universal Mode handles a broad range of instrumentation from voice and piano to guitar and more, making it useful for learning, songwriting and production.
  • Classic Mode is tuned for orchestral instruments like strings and winds, aimed at more advanced composition and ensemble work.
  • Rock Mode is built specifically for bands, with a focus on accurately transcribing complex, electric guitar-heavy arrangements.

All three can be further dialled in using the Transcription Wizard, which lets you adjust quantisation settings and hand separation for piano pieces. An integrated Notation Editor handles any additional tweaks – transposing, correcting or splitting piano hands – before you export in your chosen format.

In practice, the applications are broader than they might first appear. For seasoned producers and composers, the plugin mode means recording a full band session and bringing it straight into the DAW is a much faster process than it used to be. For musicians working across different backgrounds – say, a lo-fi pop or hip-hop artist whose ideas live in voice memos, wanting to collaborate with a string quartet – Transcription Studio can bridge the gap between an instinctive raw idea and something notation-literate musicians can actually work from. For beginners or parents supporting a child’s music education, pulling notation from a favourite song via a YouTube link or a direct recording is a far more accessible starting point than traditional transcription methods.

At a time when most conversations about AI and music centre on automation and replacement, it’s worth noting that Transcription Studio is pointed firmly in the direction of using the technology to open up notation, encourage collaboration and support music education rather than sideline the human creative process.

“Transcription is an essential skill in music that, until recently, has only been accessible to those with traditional musical training. Klang.io’s mission from the beginning has been to create AI-powered tools that can unlock this process for everyone, and provide a streamlined access point for music makers or performers of any educational background or genre to use it to learn, communicate, and collaborate more effectively,” said Sebastian Murgul, Founder and CEO of klang.io.

On the role of AI specifically, Murgul added: “We leverage AI technology in service of human creativity rather than replacing it to make the process more efficient and allow people to focus on doing the fun, creative work that has always been at the heart of music-making.”
