Woodstock 50 finally finds a venue

As originally published by The New York Times, the organisers of the seemingly cursed festival have somehow managed to avoid cancellation (for now) after the Maryland Amphitheatre has agreed to stage the event across the weekend of August 16-18.

However, it’s still a significant downgrade from their original intentions to host the festival at the same site of the 1969 event at Watkins Glen, New York. There’s also a much more limited event capacity due to the nature of both the venue and the town nearby, so it’s predicted that Woodstock 50 will only pull around 32,500 punters for each day of the festival – for reference, that’s about 10,000 less than the daily turnout of people who attended this year’s Splendour In The Grass.

Furthermore, given that most of the artists who originally signed on to perform at the festival actually signed a contract to perform at Watkin’s Glen, there’s speculation that the event might even need to totally re-jig its lineup in the three weeks leading up to the event. For better or for worse, that could spare punters the prospect of seeing Imagine Dragons, Miley Cyrus and Greta Van Fleet – but just imagine who their replacements could be…

Anyway, it looks like this drama’s far from being over. We’ve loved reporting on this, and to be honest, we’re actually going to miss roasting it when it’s over. Woodstock 50, thank you for the endless entertainment – and good luck. You really need it.
