On an example that an album contains 10 tracks, the method is set to be calculated by an album’s top two streamed tracks being compared to the success of the other eight tracks on the album. The reasoning behind this is to try and prevent what is known as ‘chart warping’ where by one or two tracks are a lot more successful than the rest of the album.
ARIA chief executive Dan Rosen stated that streaming is the biggest consumption of music in Australia and with this new method, “ARIA can ensure that the ARIA Albums Chart will continue to be the most accurate indication of the nation’s favourite music each and every week”.
