The buyer, Seventh Street Media, is a new company set up by Luke Girgis, who has worked in several different industry related roles, including artist management, publicity, and A&R.

It was also announced that a new senior editorial team have been hired to oversee the direction of Seventh Street Media, including Poppy Reid, who has previously worked as editor for The Music Network and as a writer for Rolling Stone. Nathan Jolly will also be joining the team, having previously held positions as a music journalist at Junkee Media, The Music Network, Channel [V], and others.

Tone Deaf is a widely read, Melbourne based music media website, which was previously run by Nicholas Jones and Darve Smith. “We feel very much like parents watching their kids move out and grow up,” said Jones. “We wish Tone Deaf the very best into the future and look forward to watching as it continues to grow and play an important role in promoting local music.”

The Brag is a weekly street press that was previously operated by Furst Media, the publisher of Beat Magazine, Mixdown Magazine and Fashion Journal.

“The Brag’s place as Sydney’s only dedicated music and arts street press is in good stead with the Seventh Street team,” said Kris Furst, the company’s director. “Luke’s knowledge of the Australian music industry and his knack for content creation surely signals an exciting future for The Brag.”

“Throughout 2017, Seventh Street Media will be announcing further acquisitions and brand launches to become the biggest music media publisher in Australia,” said Girgis. “I’m excited at this incredible opportunity to combine the history and credibility of The Brag and J Play with the highly engaged audience of Tone Deaf to create a new leader in Australian music publishing.”
