Half-siblings Sharron, Norrine and John R. Nelson have sought out a judge to remove Comercia Bank and Trust as Prince’s estate executor, with the heirs claiming that the company removed the contents of Prince’s Paisley Park vault and shipped them to California without their permission.
While Comercia denies these allegations, claiming that they sought out the permission of the family, this news further intensifies the legal dispute surrounding the estate of the late great, who left no will when he died in April last year of a painkiller overdose. While a judge ruled that Prince’s six half-siblings were to be granted his estate, bickering and disputes over the monetary split has divided the family into two opposing sides.
Estate disputes from various parties have previously seen planned posthumous releases from The Purple One delayed, as well as legal action against Univeral Music Group. However, at the end of the day it looks like it’ll be Prince fans that will lose the most. At this stage, it seems unlikely that we’ll ever see the rumoured thousands of recordings locked up inside Paisley Park.
